Once the Ice Melts explores the status of isolation and the future of traditions in what is arguably earth’s remotest town. It introduces a group of young adults in Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the last remaining hunting communities in Greenland, and observes them over the course of one summer. With harpoon skills an increasingly useless trade, they struggle to find their place in a High Arctic town of 573 people and 250 dogs – reduced to 572 residents by the time the documentary comes to an end.
